Castelli Chpt. III Wool Short Sleeve Base LayerChapter III was a collaboration between former professional cyclist David Millar and Castelli (David Millar raised capital and now is making clothing on his own). The line has the look and feel of a couture line. Sizes are half sizes and are relatively true to size compared to regular Castelli. "It's not a 'racing cut' but feature relaxed shoulders that closely match suit jacket sizing. Additional, the the waist is a trim cut but isn't extremely narrow like some pieces of Castelli. If you're between sizes Chapter 3 is the perfect line for you
“The Short Sleeve Winter Base Layer – aka SSWBL – is our twist on a staple item of every cyclist’s winter wardrobe. Sometimes we have no choice but to venture out when it’s cold or wet, or worse when it’s cold and wet. That’s when the SSWBL is dug out from its summer hibernation. We have used a new technology – called NuYarn – a nylon core wrapped with merino wool which makes up 15% of the overall material, making the fabric more comfortable, stretchier, drier, warmer, stronger, and tougher than normal wool. It’s surprisingly light for its warmth and warm for its weight”
CHPT3, true to its origins as the retired pro’s chosen garb, does not fit like a regular cycling kit in the traditional sense. It is not a “racing” cut, but it’s also not anywhere near the other end of the spectrum. It utilizes a trim, fashion cut that looks as clean off the bike as on it.
35% stretchier, retains shape over time, even after washing.
35% warmer due to its lower density, lighter and loftier fabric.
5 x faster at drying, due to the nylon core.
